Before launching Available to All, Tim DeRoche wrote and published A Fine Line: How Most American Kids are Kept Out of the Best Public Schools, which traces modern-day public school attendance zones back to the racist redlining practices of the early 20th century. An alumnus of the global strategic management consulting firm McKinsey & Company, Tim was an independent consultant for over 20 years, serving Fortune 500 companies, leading foundations, and some of the most innovative nonprofits in K12 education. He has written on education policy for TIME, the Free Press, Education Next, the Washington Post, Education Week, School Administrator, the Los Angeles Business Journal, and the 74. He is the author of three Amazon bestsellers, A Fine Line, a book of light verse Tales of Whimsy, Verses of Woe, and The Ballad of Huck & Miguel, a modern-day retelling of Mark Twain’s classic set on the Los Angeles River.

Kelley Williams-Bolar is an activist and educator. She currently works as a paraprofessional at a public high school in Ohio. In 2011, she was prosecuted and jailed by the State of Ohio for using her father’s address to get her daughters into a better high school. She has been profiled in the Atlantic and on the Today show, and she is the subject of a feature documentary Robbed: A Mother’s Peril, which is currently in production. She has spoken at South by Southwest, the Vision Summit of Seeking Educational Excellence, and the National Summit of ExcelinEd. She is a graduate of the University of Akron.

Derrell Bradford

Board Chair

Board chair Derrell Bradford is the president of 50CAN. Derrell previously served as the executive director at Better Education for Kids, where he led successful efforts to reform teacher tenure and to electl reform-minded candidates across the state. Prior to B4K, Derrell spent nine years with New Jersey’s Excellent Education for Everyone (E3) as director of communications and then executive director. Derrell frequently contributes to education debates in print, digital, radio and TV media. He has served on several boards dedicated to putting the needs of students and families first, including Success Academy Charter Schools, EdBuild, The Partnership for Educational Justice, NACSA and The Parent Coalition for Excellent Education. A native of Baltimore, Derrell attended the St. Paul’s School for Boys and the University of Pennsylvania, where he received a bachelor’s degree in English.

Adam Peshek

Adam Peshek is senior fellow at Stand Together where he focuses on education policy. Prior to joining Stand Together, Peshek spent eight years in leadership positions with ExcelinEd, including managing policy director. In this role, Peshek provided strategic support to state leaders interested in developing and implementing policies that expanded educational options for children. He also served as vice president of advocacy, directing the organization’s advocacy efforts with governors, state legislatures and departments of education, and other stakeholders. Peshek has provided testimony to more than a dozen state legislatures and is a frequent commentator on education policy.

Aaron Guerrero

Director of Digital Communications

Aaron Guerrero has a decade of experience as a digital communications professional. Prior to joining Available to All, Aaron worked at two leading education reform groups: the California Charter Schools Association and StudentsFirst, developing and executing cross-platform campaigns in support of policies expanding access to high-quality public schools. He also served as the digital director for the Assembly Republican Caucus, helping to shape the conversation around some of the most important issues facing California, including housing, energy and infrastructure. Aaron is a graduate of the University of California, Davis.

Exposing unfair or illegal enrollment practices by any public school

Documenting how these policies are bad for American families and the American social contract

Supporting parents in gaining equal access to public schools

Advocating for legislative and policy reforms that will open up the schools

Litigating cases against districts and schools that break the law

Basic standards of fairness and openness should apply to the admissions policies of all public schools, including charter schools, magnet schools, traditional public schools with attendance zones, and all others. It is vitally important for our social contract that the best public schools be open to the public.
